Introducing allergens is an important step in your baby’s nutrition. At Belov, we understand that this phase can feel stressful—especially when you want to do the best for your little one’s health.
But the good news is that recent studies are clear: introducing allergens early, around 6 months, could actually help prevent food allergies. Yes, really!
Why introduce allergens early to your baby?
For years, it was believed that allergenic foods (like peanuts, eggs, or fish) should be delayed. But today, recommendations have changed.
As emphasized by the Canadian Paediatric Society, introducing allergens as soon as solids are introduced, around 6 months, can reduce the risk of allergies—especially for babies considered high risk.
Even Food Allergy Canada states that early exposure to certain foods helps the immune system develop tolerance.
And what do we do at Belov?
At Belov, we take this reality to heart. Laurie, our co-founder, lives with several severe food allergies—peanuts, nuts, shellfish… She often says, “If I could avoid passing one thing on to my kids, it would be my allergies!”
That’s why our recipes include allergenic ingredients like salmon and soy—always clearly identified—to help families who have already introduced these foods separately at home.
Our tips for introducing allergens to your baby
Here are some recommendations for a simple and safe introduction:
✔ One allergen at a time, in small amounts
✔ Wait 2 to 3 days before trying a new one
✔ Watch your baby: redness, vomiting, swelling = possible reaction
✔ Consult your pediatrician before starting, especially if baby is at risk
What to remember:
Introducing allergens doesn’t have to be a source of anxiety (or at least less so!). With reliable information, attentive listening, and thoughtfully prepared recipes, you can support your baby toward a varied and safe diet.
And at Belov, we’re here to support you—one bite at a time.
xoxo
